Lush greenery covers the Phoenix Mountains in the province of Guangdong, China. There grows one of the most sought-out teas by connoisseurs: Dan Cong oolongs. Dan Cong translates as 'single bush', and refers to leaves harvested from a single cultivar of camellia sinensis. These special cultivars are developed by tea farmers over many years to bring out flavors and aromas that call to mind specific flours, fruits, and herbs.
Our Phoenix Mountain is specifically a Mi Tao Xiang or 'honey peach aroma'. It is also Lao Cong - 'old bush', meaning it was harvested from older tea plants, resulting in richer flavor and stronger Cha Qi - 'tea energy'. Despite the name, we find it to have flavor notes of honeydew melon and hazelnuts, and it remains full bodied over many brews.
The Chaozhou region of Guangdong, where this tea is from, is also the origin of Gong Fu Cha, a style of brewing now common throughout China and Taiwan, and it's the best way to appreciate this tea.
