Let the Emerald City come to you. Gyokuro means ‘jade dew’ and it merits the name. If you want to know what the color green tastes like, it is this.
Gyokuro are the leaves that are ground to make matcha. Presented here in whole leaf form, a variety of brewing options are available, each worth exploring. Brew like a typical green tea, with cooler water (70-80c) for 2 minutes, for a smooth and delightfully zen tea time. Or immerse yourself in traditional Gyokuro brewing, using a lot of leaf with lukewarm water (50-60c), for 3 minutes. The result is unique among tea experiences: a luxurious savory broth, grounding and calming. Or, in a modern twist, sprinkle some over ice and let it melt: a refreshing cold brew technique.
Gyokuro is grown in the shade, bringing out its verdant color, but also enriching it with nutrients, antioxidants, and theanine, the tea chemical that promotes relaxation and stress-relief.
