"Dark Tea" as a category includes teas that are typically aged and fermented, such as pu-erh. But nothing is born old, and Dark Teas begin in a 'raw' form, known as mao cha. Heart of Gold is a Dark Tea in the style of a raw pu-erh, with leaves picked in 2022. It showcases the peach-pit minerality typical of raw pu-erh, with a hint of spice behind it. As with many Dark Teas, its particular magic comes in the form of a long lingering sweetness of peaches & cream.
Pu-erh is the pride of Yunnan, but this mao cha is a bold experiment from the woman behind Tea Studio in Tamil Nadu, India. Muskan Khanna is bringing innovative, artisanal teas to the Nilgiri Mountains, and we are pleased to share her one-of-a-kind tea.
